Why Retire to Panama?
Sunseaker Properties offers retirement real estate in Panama
For the fourth time in a row, Panama is ranked number one for retirement living by "International Living". If you've followed any of the major survey agencies around the world that rate places for retirement, Panama has been on top of the list of many, and for a few years running.
Located in Central America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, between Colombia and Costa Rica Panama is the land bridging the North American and South American continents.
Few places in the world offer spring-like weather year-round, a low cost of living, safety, security, peace of mind and beautiful landscapes, further more although Spanish is the official language, English is widely spoken.
As well as the picture perfect highlands, Panama has a perfect location for every taste; from a cosmopolitan capital city to palm fringed beaches, cool mountain climates and tropical resorts, however the best fact is that it is affordable! There are many financial incentives for retirement. If you are looking for a second home or a retirement option, then Panama should be at the top of your list.
Invest in more than just property; invest in an affordable retirement
Despite the distance, Europeans are becoming aware of the affordable opportunities that Panama has to offer. The Expatriate Telegraph (offshoot of a venerable British newspaper) suggests an alternative retirement destination to the usual venues of Spain, France and Portugal that retirees should consider, a "warm, adventurous and inexpensive place to retire, Panama also offers an attractive incentive program for retirees". Again Panama compares most favourably with the more usual European choice of retirement destinations with its lower cost of living and great climate, not to mention the financial incentives.
Panama currently has the best "pensionado" program (retirement program for foreigners) in the world. This special discount program really makes Panama affordable for retirees. Panamanian or alien residents living in national territory who are 55 years of age or more, for women, and 62 years or more, for men and all retired or pensioned persons or disabled people on pensions regardless of age, will enjoy generous benefits ranging from 15% to 50% on the following:
Importation of all your personal and household goods and a car free of taxes.
Right to import a new car every two years free of taxes.
25% off domestic and international airline tickets.
50% off entertainment including cinema, concerts, theater (cinema tickets cost only $2.00).
25% off restaurants.
15% off fast food restaurants.
50% off hotel accommodation Monday-Thursday.
30% off hotels from Friday through Sunday.
30% off bus, boat and train fares.
10% prescription medicines.
15% off dental and eye exams.
50% off closing costs for home loans.
15% off hospital bills (if no insurance applies).
20% off doctor's consultations.
20% off professional and technical services.
No tax on income earned outside of Panama.
One of the main issues for retirees is their health. Panama has an excellent and first class health system with many US trained doctors. Private health insurance is also readily available by the large insurance companies.
